.. What is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is a scientific method and specialised type of training allowing people to gain voluntary control over their physiological system.

Sensors register body functions that are ordinarily unconscious and automatic. By means of amplification and audio-visual response (= feedback), these functions (e.g. heart rate, sweat secretion, muscle tone, breathing, ...) are transformed into conscious reactions. This fulfils the essential requirement for being able to influence these body functions.

The aim of biofeedback training is to seek control over body functions and to transfer this control to everyday life.

How does biofeedback work?

Biofeedback is a learning process teaching you how to control your body. In study after study it has been shown that people can learn much more than often assumed: for this purpose, it is necessary that we get a "response" (= feedback) whether we are going into the direction of the target, and this is exactly what the biofeedback instrument does.

Sensors visualise the processes within your body on screen. Your task during biofeedback training is to affect these body functions. In this way, e.g. patients suffering from headache are trained to reduce their muscle tension, people suffering from stress are trained to calm down their autonomic nervous system, or patients suffering from incontinence are trained to strengthen their sphincter muscles.

Consider biofeedback for

* tension headache
* migraine
* incontinence
* high blood pressure
* anxiety disorders
* asthma
* muscle problems
* stress-related symptoms

body functions

Body functions are made conscious and therefor become affectable by the patients.
